Learn To Type – A Case Study
Friday, June 4, 2010 17:50Question: Daniel, could you tell the readers a little bit about yourself.
Answer: I′m 17 years old and live in Sydney, Australia. I surf quite a lot and like to spend time at the beach with my mates just hanging out. I′m doing HSC exams at the moment and hope to go to Uni next year.
Question: Sounds good. What do you hope to study at Uni?
Answer: Some sort of Business Degree.
Question: When did you learn how to touch type – and why?
Answer: I learned to type properly when I was about 14 years old – year 9 at High School. By year 9, the assignments you are expected to hand in are really long and most had to be typed. It used to take me ages to type up my notes and I was always asking my mom to do it for me. She encouraged me to learn to type.
Question: How long did it take you to learn how to type?
Answer: I used a product that gets you typing with your fingers on the right keys from day one. I did a 28 day typing trial and each day I just got better and better. I went from about 200 words in 15 minutes on day 1 to around 500 words in 15 minutes on day 28. I can do a lot more than that now.
Question: Is being able to type helping you with your HSC study?
Answer: Heaps. Especially Business Studies where I had to type up a 20 page business plan with 8,000 words. Being able to type also helped when I had to summarise all my Economics essays and there’s always loads of typing to do in English.
Question: Does typing correctly help you in any other ways, apart from school work?
Answer: Definitely. Whenever I use the computer I just automatically type properly now – on social media sites, search engines and that sort of stuff. It saves a lot of time.
Question: Do you recommend other teenagers should learn to type?
Answer: I think everybody who uses a computer should learn how to type. Why wait until you’re a teenager? Children should be learning at Primary School. Thanks Daniel.
